Melanie received her B.A. in Linguistics from the College of William and Mary, and then spent four years teaching Language Arts and Early Literacy at a school for students with language-based learning disabilities while earning an M.Ed. in Special Education from Simmons College in Boston.  She taught third grade at a bilingual school in rural Honduras for a year, where she improved her Spanish communication skills.  She went on to graduate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2011 with an M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology.  Melanie has clinical experience working with children of all ages in the home, school, day care, and evaluation centers.  Much of her experience has been assessing and treating children with diverse language needs, including communication issues associated with autism spectrum disorders, hearing loss, literacy needs, phonological disorders, and other developmental delays.  She is familiar with augmentative/alternative communication techniques as well as assistive listening devices.  She enjoys working with parents, teachers, and other professionals as part of an interdisciplinary team in order to best support the children and families with whom she works.  Melanie has lived and traveled throughout Latin America, and is happy to work with children and their families in either Spanish or English.
