Elinor Coates, M.Ed., CCC-SLP
Speech-Language Pathologist
Elinor graduated from Hamilton College in upstate New York with a B.A. in English Literature, and has lived in the Durham area since 1993. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from North Carolina Central University with a Masters of Education in Communication Disorders. She has experience providing therapy across diverse environments including public and private schools, preschools, pediatric private practice, and adult rehabilitation facilities and hospitals. Elinor particularly enjoys working in early education/early intervention settings for children birth to five. Her clinical experience includes work with children and families with articulation/phonological disorders, language delays, fluency, learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, and pediatric developmental delays. She has received specialized training with the LiPS program, a phoneme sequencing program for reading, spelling, and speech, reading strategies for children, basic sign language, and early intervention. Elinor has also worked with English as a Second Language students, adult literacy programs, and group homes for mentally disabled adults. Elinor enjoys working collaboratively with parents, teachers, and other professionals across settings to maximize young children’s communication and early literacy skills. Elinor holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language Hearing Association and is licensed by the North Carolina State Board for Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists. Elinor is married and is a mother to two children in middle school.
